Essex Senior League Premier - Match Report

To be honest, most Bridge fans were probably not expecting to get much from this game at SWT but, as football fans always do, we travel in hope if not in expectation. Saffron Walden have been pretty decent at home and pretty decent away this season, losing just three league matches. Going into this game we all know what The Bridge results have looked like.

However, it was The Bridge who made a good start to the game and it took just two minutes for the visitors to register the first goal with Mechack Asuka giving The Bridge the lead. With Tobias Braney returning to his parent club now his loan period is over and Ollie Jenkins not in the starting XI, it fell to Mechack to lead the line and the early goal was a good start to the game for him.

Taking the lead after just two minutes has advantages and disadvantages. It’s good to be ahead in the game but it does mean you have to stay ahead for a long time and, to be fair, The Bridge did manage to do that for most of the first half. In the Bloods line-up were a few Hullbridge old boys and one of those was on hand to score the equaliser that drew SWT level on 42 minutes. It may have been a bit of a scrappy goal but they all count and Solo Ofori wasn’t worried about how nice it looked as his leveller sent the two teams in at half-time on level terms.

As the second half got underway, Solo was about to have another impact on the game. Just 6 minutes into the half, he worked his way down the right and then ended his run with a good cross that Ross Wall was more than happy to get his head on and give SWT a 2-1 lead.

Once again, this was a decent performance from The Bridge that looked like it would not get the reward it deserved, although you have to say SWT put in a good second-half performance of their own and took their chances when they came. When your luck is out though, your luck is out and so it proved for The Bridge when Piers Hatcliff’s 30-yard drive crashed back off the bar and away.

The Bridge were still in the game until the 88th minute when a third SWT goal finally decided the match. Correy Davidson is usually never too far away from a goal and didn’t disappoint the Bloods fans, shifting the ball onto his left foot and drilling it home for 3-1.

So, Hullbridge's losing run continues, as they have slipped to 18th in the table. However, The Bridge put in a decent performance, and surely, the tide will turn if they continue to play like this. Next up, it’s West Essex at home, and…

Callum has been putting in some good performances in the centre of The Bridge defence and this was another one earning him his second MOM in a row.
