Match Report

Hullbridge Sports FC 3-3 Woodford Town (2017) FC

With Hullbridge in desperate need of picking up three points the game couldn’t have started any worse as Sports were 2-0 down inside 7 minutes. De’Juane Taylor- Crossdale ran on to a ball played through the middle of the Hullbridge defence and he slotted home, then a Rob Hodgson clearance spun off his boot and looped over the helpless Jamie Merralls in the Sports goal to make it 2-0.

As in other games, Hullbridge are getting the chances, but not being able to convert and Chris Hales had a chance on 9 minutes, but his shot was blocked, then he had another blocked effort 2 minutes later and Sam Taylor had the follow up, but his effort went over!

Woodford were looking dangerous on the break, but Hullbridge were continuing to press and when Sotoyinbo got a cross in, it was unfortunate that is just didn’t fall to a Hullbridge player.

On 35 minutes Michael Salako had a good shot and then a minute later Luca Frankis pulled one back for Sports when he skipped round the defenders and shot across the goal and watched the ball go in off the far post.

Sports get a shout for a free kick when Salako goes down just before half time after a mix up in the Woodford defence, but unhappy that nothing is given.

HT – Hullbridge Sports FC 1-2 Woodford Town (2017) FC

Hullbridge come out with everything to play for, but still half asleep and concede again early on to make it 1-3 to the visitors as Ethan Kessel fires home.

On 59 minutes Hullbridge are back in it as Adebola Sotoyinbo crosses, it gets cleared back to him by the Woodford defender and he calmly side foots it first time past the visiting keeper.

It really is game on after 65 minutes when a Harry Watkins corner is met with a powerful Rob Hodgson header to level things up with everything still to play for.

Sports are putting the pressure on the Woodford goal, as a Jimmy Cox free kick finds Adebola Sotoyinbo at the far post, but he just can’t get enough power on the effort to convert it.

So near to a Hullbridge winner, as the ball finds its way to Sotoyinbo who shoots over the Woodford crossbar and then Salako puts in a low cross across the area, but nobody available to convert.

Hullbridge then go down to 10 men as Rob Hodgson receives a second yellow card and Hullbridge are under pressure. Two fantastic Jamie Merralls saves from respective corners and then Merralls is almost knocked out cold as he is clattered in to the post. Hullbridge were hanging on and it was that man Merralls again in the 90+3 minute when he scooped the ball away from a Woodford shot from yet another corner and then a goal line clearance saves the point for it to finish 3-3.

FT – Hullbridge Sports FC 3-3 Woodford Town (2017) FC

Another draw and Hullbridge will see this as points dropped. A great fight back after gifting the visitor’s their goals after a lack of concentration.

We prove we can score, but keeping a clean sheet is almost asking the impossible!
